Learning through Play – This course is aimed Practitioners working with children under five, with an interested in how children learn through play.

Play is one of the main ways in which children learn and develop. It helps to build self-worth by giving a child a sense of his or her own abilities and to feel good about themselves. Because it’s fun, children often become very absorbed in what they are doing.

This course supports the understanding that play is crucial to child development and how practitioners can facilitate children’s play

Learning Outcomes;
• Understand what counts as ‘play’ and ‘playful’ activities
• Identify reasons why play is important in the early years
• Understand how key theories of child development link to the value of children’s play
• Recognise the distinction between free play, guided play and highly structured adult-directed activities
• Reflect upon the adult’s role in supporting playful learning
